O património rural no Parque Natural da Madeira – a norte e a oeste da Ilha da Madeira

A Área Protegida Parque Natural da Madeira (PNM) carateriza-se, também, por uma grande diversidade paisagística onde os aspetos de preservação e valorização rural são de todo consideráveis. Assim, o PNM tem vindo a dinamizar e implementar trabalhos nesta temática, alguns em colaboração com Casas do Povo ou Juntas de Freguesia.

O PNM engloba um considerável património cultural bastante rico e diversificado, onde se pode também observar aspetos da humanização da paisagem que remontam ao início do povoamento da ilha e onde se destaca o património rural.

O património rural contribui para perpetuar e valorizar a identidade duma comunidade, a memória cultural do território, para um desenvolvimento da economia local, para uma melhoria da qualidade da paisagem cultural e para uma melhor oferta no âmbito do turismo de naturez.

Este património construído traduz-se num vasto conjunto de construções e tipologias que urge preservar para as gerações futuras e valorizar de forma a continuar a ser um contributo fundamental para a identidade da Região, para o desenvolvimento do Turismo e para a coesão social na Região.

A riqueza e singularidade deste património tão caraterístico desta ilha, vão para além das casas tradicionais, desde os solares com capelas até às casas com cobertura de palha, aos tanques de pedra, palheiros, fontanários, moinhos de água, às tradicionais adegas e lagares, aos caminhos reais e igrejas.

Nesta linha de trabalho e tendo já realizado alguns trabalhos anteriores, decidiu-se dar um novo impulso, mais significativo no levantamento do património cultural existente, pois alguma recolha já efetuada não tinha sido exaustiva, nem fotografada nem valorizada.

Assim, implementou-se o projeto "O Património Rural no Parque Natural da Madeira - a norte e a oeste da Ilha da Madeira", cofinanciado pelo PRODERAM (Programa de Desenvolvimento Rural para a Região Autónoma da Madeira).

Ethnobotanical

The Natural Park Service of Madeira (SPNM) has an awareness of the importance of the recovery, preservation and dissemination of its natural and cultural heritage. This is also an appreciation and desire for the promotion of knowledge and the traditions of rural communities as well. Keeping this mind, a draft was prepared in connection with the aims of ethnobotany:

Conduct a survey of the local aromatic and medicinal flora, identifying and cataloguing their uses as well as traditions and technologies associated with agriculture, contributing to the knowledge of the natural heritage and rural development of the parish.

Recover popular knowledge for future generations, enhancing the information found through the edition of a book and the promotion of a small garden of medicinal herbs and organic farming.

Contribute to the diversification and enhancement of rural activities.

Being a PNM protected landscape and having a growing taste for tradition in this parish, a group of entities and individuals were challenged to undertake this project, including the Casa do Povo (town hall). Like Ilha, another village which had been extremely isolated, until recently, is Fajã da Ovelha. With its very rural characteristics, it has also been included in the PNM and its Casa do Povo develops diverse activities for the rural population with great dynamism. This parish, with the uniqueness of its very diverse idiosyncrasies, led us to think that it would also be interesting to develop this project there. It began in 2007, and is still ongoing.
